After one year at Summit Pacific Bible College I now find myself in the ghettos of Brooklyn, New York. A place where it's not safe to feel safe. Never in a million years did I think I would be living in such a place. But I am and I love it. The people here are so genuine and really care about how you are doing and would give you anything. What theirs, is yours.
I am living in a house with 47 other interns and 2 house parents. It is definitely hard, not a lot of Kaitlin time. But I am managing by the strength of God in me. He has given me so much.
The ministry is amazing here. 20 000 plus kids are ministered to each week, this still blows my mind each time I see the gym filled with kids multiple times a day.
Each Saturday we have what is called Indoor Sunday School. We bus kids in from the surrounding area and put on Sunday School for them. This happens three times each Saturday, and then in December for two weeks there will be six a day. |
| The interns are all assigned to work in different areas. So this past month I helped in the preschool. It is held in the gym and so full each time. I love it. The kids are so great. Then there is the class for the older kids and an overflow class for them. In preschool and the regular big kid class we just have to sit with the kids and make sure they behave. But if we have to work in the overflow class we have to actually teach. So I am pretty excited if I get to do that. There are just so many opportunities to grow. So Saturdays are such great days. |

| During the week from Tuesday to Friday we do Sidewalk Sunday Schools in the afternoon. For this we take out cube van type trucks and one side of it folds out as a stage and we do a Sunday School on there. We will do them in parks, parking lots, basketball courts, sidewalks. Anywhere we can. Each day we do two sessions in a projects area. Just recently we got approval from housing (which is like projects) that we can do them in the actual housing grounds. That is very exciting. For Sidewalk we have to teach a portion of the lesson each week. They have it divided up into different sections so there is a different teacher for different portions, each like five minutes. I am definitely being stretched and have grown in that area. If some of you remember in high school I was not very good at public speaking at all, but God is blessing me and giving me strength to do so many things that I didn't think I could. |

Sundays we have to go to one service and then sometimes we have to work in another. But for the most it is a relaxed day off. And Monday is our official day off. Which is greatly appreciated by all.
As well from Tuesday to Friday we have classes each morning for an hour. Except Friday when we have staff meeting. So every day is pretty filled up. I am feeling so blessed and just know that this is where God is wanting me right now and I can't wait to see what he has in store for me here and beyond.Thank you all for your support. I look back on high school and so many of you have made such an impact on me and I feel so blessed to have been able to grow up and learn in a God centered environment. Thank you for that. |
Blessings,
Kaitlin |
