I graduated in 2007 and headed to Trinity Western University that September. Trinity’s mission statement is Education, Transformation, and Impact. This sentence reflects the journey I have been on since graduation from PCS.

I have been educated in so many ways. I have been educated by taking a range of classes that have expanded my worldview and have taught me how little I really know. My favourite class that I am taking this semester is a sociology class called race and ethnic relations. This class gives me the opportunity to spend three hours every Thursday night discussing issues such as racism, identity and social injustices with a group of my peers. I have also been educated by the opportunities I am given outside the classroom. An example would be the opportunity to hear Anglican bishop and theologian N.T. Wright lecture in the daily chapels offered at Trinity.

I have also been transformed in so many ways. The person who stepped on to campus is not the same person that will be stepping off this campus for the last time at the end of this semester.  The community at Trinity is one of a kind, and I have surrounded myself with people who constantly challenge me. Being at Trinity has made me realize that I want to be constantly transformed throughout my life journey. I want to continue to learn and grow in my relationship with God and others.

Lastly, Trinity has given me a great passion to impact the world. For three years I have been involved in an outreach ministry called Rahab.  Rahab is a group of women students who volunteer at a non-profit in the downtown eastside called the Great room. Our aim is to form friendships with the women who live in the neighbourhood. We do not evangelize but instead aim to love the women for who they are and where they are at in their journeys. Being involved in this ministry has ignited a passion in me to work with people who are living in low income communities, especially women who have addictions and are working in the sex trade.  This summer I worked as a support worker at a non-profit in Surrey called Newton Advocacy Group which works with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Working at NAG’s helped me to realize that this is the population I want to work with full time after I graduate. This year I am the leader of  Rahab. I have been blessed by the opportunity to introduce students to the culture of the downtown eastside and watch the stereotypes they may have had about these women melt away.
