ESL Instruction

Starting in the 2011/2012 school year, Pacific Christian School will be offering FOUR levels of ESL instruction. In order to enter a regular English 10 class, students should have successfully completed the fourth level. At that point, no further ESL instruction would be required. However, an optional FIFTH level (pre-university prep) will be offered starting in January/2012. The cost for the required four levels of ESL instruction is included in the tuition. However, should students chose to take the optional fifth level, they would be required to pay $500.00.

All international students are required to take an on-line test to determine at which level they are qualified to begin. Students should schedule a test time with Mr. Slofstra, the International Program Coordinator.

Once the course level has been determined, students will receive a username and password and can access the courses via the following link:

A language lab (room 233) is available at the secondary campus of PCS for all ESL students.  Computers are equipped with head sets and microphones – both required by the program.  If students work on the ESL courses at home, they should equip their computers accordingly.

Normally, students will be given a block (blocks) of time during the school day to work on their ESL program.  A tutoring program is also in place in conjunction with the ESL courses so that students will have direct contact with qualified staff in order to discuss questions arising from the course material. Meeting times with the tutor could be arranged in or outside of the school schedule.

If you have any questions about the ESL instruction program, please call…
