Printable Exam Schedule (pdf)
Exam Week at PCS
Starting Monday, January 24 until Friday, January 28, PCS students, along with many other students in British Columbia, will be writing end-of-semester exams. Most of these exams are school-based, but selected courses in Grade 10, 11 and 12 are provincial exams. Noteworthy, as well, is that although MOST of the exams are paper-based, some students have chosen to write or must write (some provincial exams) electronic-based exams.
Some things that are “need to know” for exam writers…
- Morning exams begin at 9:00 a.m. and afternoon exams begin at 1:00 p.m.
- Students must be at school a half hour prior to the start of an exam in order to turn in textbooks to teachers. To do this, students should go to the classroom where the course has been taught.
- Students are called into the exam centre by course.
- Students are expected to enter the exam centre quietly. No talking is allowed once inside the exam centre.
- Many provincial exams are name-specific so students will have to find their own personal copy. Provincial exams are laid out in alphabetical order with As on the far right and Zs on the far left (from the gym entrance perspective).
- Students who have chosen to be in a separate setting should check out the bulletin board in the lobby to find out where they need to go. Mrs. Hooper is in charge of this service.
- Students who are writing electronically should go to either the Computer Lab (220) or the Library Resource Lab (222). This would have been pre-arranged with the teacher.
- Students writing electronically should have their Personal Education Number (PEN) with them. This is available from the office, although the supervising teacher will also have a list.
- Students are limited as to what they can bring into the exam centre (the gym). Quiet snacks and a water bottle are OK. Papers, backpacks, books, purses and bulky coats are not.
- NO electronic devices of any kind are allowed into the exam centre. The only exception would be where teachers have permitted the use of calculators (pre-approved in some cases) during the exam.
- Students should bring adequate writing supplies to the exam centre. Pencils (sharpened), an eraser and blue or black pens are a must.
- Students who finish their exams early will be allowed to leave the exam centre only at specified times. Usually this is done in 15 minute increments starting at the one hour mark of the exam (10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.).
- All provincial exams have a three hour limit (unless prior approval was given by the Ministry of Education through special application – Mrs. Hooper).
- Most school-based exams have a two hour limit, unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
