Grade 8 Exams
Dear parents of grade 8 students,
I trust that you and your family enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing Christmas Break. It is good that we have this time to reflect upon the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and to share in that joy with family and friends. It is my prayer that you and your family will enjoy a year of God’s blessing as you seek to serve Him daily.
School is well underway and we are quickly approaching the end of semester 1 (term 2). Regular classes will end on Friday, January 20 and students will write exams from January 23-27. Second semester classes will begin on Monday, January 30.
Although we have included grade 8 classes in the formal exam schedule in the past, we have changed our practice this year. This change was the result of careful consideration of the advantages and disadvantages of introducing students at this level to lengthy formal exams. We also recognize that in our local context, most grade 8 students are part of a Middle school system that would not have a formal examination practice. At PCS, many grade 8 classes run all year, but for those that are concluding in January, students will be advised by their teachers if there will be an in-class summative test.
In summary, for the week of January 23-27, there will be no regular classes for students in grades 8 – 12. Students in grades 9 – 12 will be completing formal exams. Students in grade 8 may have activities (such as the Outdoor Education trip to Mt. Washington) or assigned work to complete at home.
